about elizabeth charles

Melbourne-born Elizabeth Charles opened her eponymous boutique to bring the cutting-edge fashion from her native Australia to the U.S market.  Her boutique is dedicated to the top-tier designers from Australia and New Zealand including Colette Dinnigan, Akira, Lover, Karen Walker, Mala Brajkovic and Zambesi.

Charles' first boutique opened in 2002 in the heart of the Meatpacking District, Manhattan’s hippest fashion destination, the boutique is a 1,000+ square-foot urban oasis for women on the prowl for truly original fashion.

Due to global demand, an e-commerce web site soon followed and in May 2007 Charles opened her second boutique on the West Coast in sophisticated Pacific Heights in San Francisco.

Management consultant turned style maven, Charles brings fantastic, unique clothes to the US – “a pretty simple idea that hadn't been done before.”  Most labels can only be found in the U.S. -- or, in some cases, in the Northern Hemisphere -- at elizabeth charles.

With input from friend Rebecca Weinberg (x-stylist for Sex and the City) every item is hand picked for her chic clientelle.

Charles’ stylish NY boutique, nested in the ground floor of an old brownstone, is furnished with European antiques and modern mid-century pieces, from the ornate gold framed mirrors to the bird cage shaped chandelier, the environment is eclectic-cool.  “I wanted it to feel like a living room – somewhere where you can relax and chat with friends as you enjoy this unique shopping experience” says Charles. Her SF boutique builds upon this great mix of styles and is complimented with hand-crafted steel rails and raw concrete flooring.

Caffe lattes, sauv blanc and a cosy rambling English courtyard garden provide true retail therapy!  Professional, friendly staff are more than helpful with their chic, sophisticated and honest advice.

The boutique's loyal following can be attributed to Charles’ flair for finding highly coveted pieces that are not available anywhere else in the US.  "My customer is a sophisticated shopper who has her own style and isn’t lead by the latest trends”.   It's this originality, care and highly personalized service that has attracted discerning downtown trend-setters like Michelle Pfieffer, Charlize Theron, Ashley Judd, Ellen Page, Lindsey Lohan, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, Rashida Jones, Helena Christensen, Gretchen Mol, Gemma Ward, Brooke Sheilds and Karolina Kurkova to name a few.
