Welcome to issue #4 of our newsletter.  Each issue we’ll keep you posted with our favorite pieces, the latest arrivals and the newest designers from Australia and New Zealand.

FEATURE - Spring is in the air!
At elizabeth charles, our favorite looks for Spring - urban safari, transparency, painterly florals, and color blocking – are now arriving weekly!Anna Thomas has a bold, yet simple, take on hues as seen in her color block  dresses with strong leather belts.  Megan Park, always impeccable with her signature prints, offers a block print shirt dress, perfect for day or night, while Lee Mathews’ cotton dress has a hood (another of our favorite things).

Ellery and Little Tailleur, both making their US debut exclusively at elizabeth charles, have their own take on transparency.  Ellery offers the coolest sheer tunic, punctuated with industrial zips and Little Tailleur keeps it sweet and simple with a long sleeve dress.  Akira has a high-brow, yet craft-like, approach that’s perfect in plum.

Enliven your wardrobe and mindset with a beautiful, modern floral  print.  Karen Walker’s shift is perfect for layering over jeans now, or worn alone in the warmer months to come.  Jayson Brundston’s minimal hand painted print offers plenty of punch in a flattering silhouette.  Madame Marie has hand beaded her flowers onto a sexy little shift.

Finally, the perfect transition pieces from winter to spring are the urban safari  coats from Lee Mathews and Ginger & Smart. Shiny and hooded, these coats are chic over anything! For the sportswoman who needs an indoor look, the olive green Anna Thomas shirtdress is easy.

designer profile - martin grant
The Spring collection from Martin Grant, now being delivered to elizabeth charles for the San Francisco location and the web site, was described by Style.com as showing Grant’s “twin talents for sharp yet feminine tailoring and dressmaking with a couturier’s attentions to detail.”

What this means to you is a selection of very sophisticated coats and dresses, able to be worn with the greatest of ease.  The Square Collar Dress begins with unexpected, supple tobacco-colored leather on the neck, falling into a crisp a-line silhouette.   The steel colored Bamboo Hooded Coat has a cool sheen and sculptural line, yet is soft to the touch.

Hailing from Melbourne, Martin launched his first line there before studying sculpture for four years, soon moving to Paris to open his atelier and only store.  Grant’s low profile and selective approach to press and distribution has garnered accolades from fashion insiders and clients like Cate Blanchett and Lee Radziwill.  Grant has clearly taken French wit and charm to heart.  The shocking pink Batwing Dress has the subtlety of a shirtdress, and is tied at the wait with a bow befitting a birthday present.  Oversized round buttons pepper the line.  “Martin Grant’s line is so well made.  The finishing is beautiful, down to the banded cuffs on a coat sleeve,” says Elizabeth Charles.
